Introduction

Step into the woods and reconnect with your wild side. The Countryman Bushcraft Course is a two-day immersive experience designed for those seeking practical bushcraft skills, confidence and a deeper understanding of nature within the countryside. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your outdoor know-how, this course offers a welcoming, hands-on journey into the heart of bushcraft. It is suitable for adults and older teens (14yrs+ with accompanying adult)

The course is delivered by experienced instructors in a quiet woodland in Derbyshire and blends practical survival techniques with a combination of traditional countryside skills and wisdom. Expect warmth, laughter and plenty of tea by the fire.

 

Course Content Overview

Over two days, participants will explore:

  • Fire-lighting using flint & steel, fire by friction using the bow drill and modern methods
  • Knife safety, carving skills, and tool use for bushcraft tasks
  • Shelter building with both tarps and natural materials
  • Traditional countryside crafts such as making cordage from natural materials
  • Basic campcraft: site selection, knots and camp gadgets
  • Foraging and wild plant identification for food and craft
  • Tracking and nature awareness: signs, sounds and seasonal changes

This isn’t just a skills course - it’s a journey into confidence, connection, and countryside heritage.

Across the two days, you’ll be guided through a series of practical challenges and reflective moments that build your bushcraft toolkit and deepen your relationship with the natural world. You’ll learn how to read the landscape, make fire with intention and craft simple tools from raw materials. You’ll sit in circle, share stories, and celebrate small wins - whether it’s your first spark, your first carved peg, or simply the joy of slowing down.
